Greenback Love Affair - Nov. 22

Greenback Love Affair

Canadians are embracing the U.S. dollar in droves. Banks are
reporting brisk demand for the greenback, and foreign exchange
operators are experiencing supply problems. When the hot air
loonie balloon reached stratospheric heights recently, that’s
when the Canucks starting chasing the dollar. Obviously,
they are catching on to the fact that what goes up must
eventually come back down. And the list includes amateur
pundits, small business owners, cross-border shoppers,
snowbirds and, of course, new-found speculators - to name
just a few. Demand is also being further stoked by corporate
expansion plans into the U.S. Even euros, and other currencies,
are in demand. Currency trading is now the talk of the town,
and everybody is becoming an instant expert. People are
flocking to online sites dealing in foreign exchange rates.
This is the first time in ten years that we have seen such
extreme volatility in the Canadian dollar.
